WSBC History

Church History

In 1979, Winnsboro Baptist Mission was organized and began holding services at the Fairfield Recreation Center. In 1982, members of the mission were excited to be able to purchase the old First Baptist Church building on Washington Street. The first service was held in this building on September 3, 1982.

In November, 1982, the congregation voted to name the mission Washington Street Baptist Church. Charter was granted and the first services as Washington Street Baptist Church were held on January 30, 1983.

Since that time, the church has grown both spiritually and in numbers, and is active in community missions. Included in our many mission activities are an outreach ministry at Laurelwood Apartment, the ministry to provide handicap ramps to those in need in Fairfield County, an outreach to Willow Springs Residential Care Facility, and an active visitation program.

During 2002, the church made a commitment to the importance of prayer, evidenced by the establishment of a prayer room, which is open daily for use by anyone feeling a need for prayer.

Washington Street Baptist Church continues to be a vital part of the Winnsboro community and welcomes new members and visitors.
